Position Responsibilities 

The Membership Relations and Engagement Coordinator manages and executes the onboarding of new members and the maintenance management of the membership experience for SBIA and Independent Sponsor Forum (ISF). This person provides support to the Chief Membership Officer / Executive Director of the Independent Sponsor Forum and works as part of a team with the Operations and Member Engagement Manager. This position requires the ability to work independently, in a supporting role, and as part of a team for a financial services trade association.  

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Support and implement the membership recruitment and retention policies established by the Chief Membership Officer for both SBIA and the Independent Sponsor Forum
  • Provide general support to the Chief Membership Officer for both SBIA and ISF initiatives and projects
  • Provide Committee support for the ISF’s National and 3 Regional Committees, to include:
    • Generating new ideas and strategies to drive interaction and engagement with stakeholders across the brand.
    • Collaborating with the Executive Director to develop agendas; taking notes and developing action items as well as following up to ensure action/execution. 
    • Performing personal outreach to ensure committees, boards, and other stakeholders are equipped and eager to promote the brand.
  • Assist in the development and sourcing of content for the ISF Deal Series, Roundtable Discussions, Bi-Weekly De-Brief and other ISF branded initiatives
  • Work with ISF Deal Series sponsors to increase brand visibility, expand opportunities, and provide insightful content for members.
  • Assist in sourcing potential ISF Deal Series sponsor relationships.
  • Assist in the vetting and approval process of prospective registrants for ISF Deal Series. 
  • Work with the team to develop recommendations that will ensure the success and continued improvement of the ISF Deal Series.
  • Perform follow-ups with non-members after events to encourage joining SBIA.
  • Work with the team to develop lists and perform outreach to new prospects for each event.
  • Work with the ISF Executive Director and coordinate all aspects of the ISF Roundtable Series 
  • Work with marketing to ensure we are maximizing our brand ambassadors on LinkedIn and leveraging their networks
  • Assist in implementing and driving success of the SBIA Lower Middle Market Dinner Series events by working with the Executive Director, as well as the Marketing and Events teams.
  • Represent ISF and SBIA with prospective members (private equity fund managers, investment bankers, and limited partners) on the phone, via video, and at events around the country
  • Maintain and update membership records and data for ISF
  • Support SBIA and ISF networking, matchmaking, and educational efforts
  • Create regular membership reports for ISF and work with Executive Director to develop a renewal strategy and process.
  • Support the membership renewal process including the logistics of outreach, generation of invoices, revenue collection and recommending adjustments to the existing dues structure for ISF 
  • Perform direct outreach to industry participants in writing, video, or in person
  • Assist in the development of membership benefits, educational content, and event offerings to support membership retention and growth.
  • Assist in developing marketing materials to support the membership development and services
  • Represent the SBIA and ISF at industry functions, as well as at conferences and events, including regional and national private equity conferences
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective members
  • Direct members to the correct staff to get support and services
  • Stay up to date on relevant legislative and regulatory matters as germane to member recruitment endeavors


Employment Standards


Education: 

BA, BBA, or BS degree required.  Concentration in Business-related fields preferred.  Ongoing continuing education (funded by SBIA) required.


Experience: 

  • Two to five years related work experience in membership services with preference given to those with association and/or nonprofit experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with and managing committees, boards, and sponsors.
  • Private equity knowledge preferred.


Working Conditions:

  • Office is located in Class A office building in downtown Washington, DC
  • In-office work a minimum of 3 days per week, with telework 2 days a week, subject to change.
  • A professional, fast paced environment


Required Skills:

  • Exceptional customer relations skills and outgoing nature are essential
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook)
  • Experience with Growthzone or other Association Management System preferred
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, initiate, and coordinate multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work as a part of a fast-paced team, as well as work independently
  • Ability to promptly and accurately respond to a sophisticated member base 
  • Deep interest in learning about the industry serviced by the SBIA 
  • Strong work ethic
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude and customer-oriented demeanor 
  • Ability to travel and to attend events is required
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Desire for professional growth, development, and a passion for earning success
