Associate to Vice President

Job Overview:

AAVIN is seeking a motivated, experienced professional to join its investment team. This role offers the opportunity to lead transactions and support portfolio companies. Ideal candidates will have experience in private equity, investment banking, or consulting, a passion for growing small businesses, and an interest in living in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area.


Responsibilities:

  • Represent AAVIN externally and clearly articulate our investment criteria, strategy, and track record in a variety of settings
  • Source and evaluate lower-middle market investment opportunities through research and relationship-building with intermediaries and business owners
  • Conduct industry, company, and market research to assess potential investments
  • Lead due diligence efforts, including financial, operational, and market analysis
  • Develop detailed financial models, valuations, and investment memos to inform investment decisions
  • Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of portfolio company transactions, both on the buy- and sell-side
  • Prepare presentation materials and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor portfolio company performance and partner with portfolio company management to drive operational improvements and growth initiatives; engage either as a member or observer to portfolio company board of directors
  • Support the development of junior team members through mentoring and training opportunities


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, accounting, or related field; MBA or equivalent experience preferred
  • 6-12 years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, consulting, or similar
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skillset with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; advanced Excel modeling skills preferred
  • Highly motivated, self-directed team player with strong initiative and ownership mindset
  • Passion for partnering with small businesses to drive growth and create value
  • Willingness to travel 1-3 times per month and work in-person in Cedar Rapids, IA as a permanent home base
